It's a Revolution! #WhoMadeMyClothes
In the lead up to Morocco later this year we want to continue the ongoing conversations around some of the things we value most here at The Boundless Edit. From sustainable and ethical fashion and textiles to empowering women in business, and all things design related, we’ll be looking at some of the amazing improvements happening around the world and the easiest ways you can join us in creating small moments for big change.
Over the next few weeks we’ll be focusing on the realities of today’s fast fashion industry and how the facts don’t have to mean we can no longer enjoy the positive empowerment and sense of identity that fashion brings us.
Since the devastating Rana Plaza collapse in 2013 where over 1,100 garment factory workers were killed, the movement to slow down the fashion industry and implement more sustainable and ethical practices has continued to gain momentum. With just a mere 0.5-4% of a garments retail cost going toward factory workers wage, the demand for fair wages and improved workers’ rights has never been greater. As a consumer there are simple steps we can take to ensure that we are making conscious and responsible decisions that support skilled artisans and slow down our path toward a disposable world.
We’ve all heard of the 3 R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle but Eco Warrior Princess takes these a step (or four) further by introducing – repurpose, rent, repair and research to the mix. These changes are all small changes that we can make in our daily lives to consume more mindfully and allow us to celebrate the skills and work of the artisans who create the clothes we wear and understand that everything we consume came from the labour of a pair of hands just like ours.
“It’s a small miracle that we as consumers can participate in a process that is keeping skills and communities alive and helping them to prosper.
— Emma Watson Fair Trade Activist and UN Women Goodwill Ambassador
